Print quality depends largely on the resolution and quality of the photo you upload. A photo may look great on a screen but not have enough detail to print cleanly and this can happen even with photos taken on high-end cameras.

For the best results:

  • Upload the original photo directly from your camera or phone. Avoid screenshots, cropped versions, or photos downloaded from another app, as these may be lower resolution
  • If faces or key details appear small in the frame, zoom in before uploading so they print clearly — even high-resolution photos may not print faces smaller than 1" clearly
  • Only use clear, focused, well-lit photos — graininess and blur cannot be corrected in print
  • Do not enlarge your photo past 100% in the design studio — a warning symbol will appear if you've stretched it too far

A note on color: Screens are backlit, which makes colors appear brighter than they will in print. Colors may also look different from screen to screen depending on display settings.

If you'd like your photo checked for print quality before production begins, note that request in the Design Request area during personalization.  Once your order is placed, our graphics team will review your photo and send a proof within 2–3 business days. You'll be notified if there are any concerns.
